In recent times, Taiwan’s authorities have been increasingly alarmed by the proximity of Chinese fighter jets to their island. The Chinese Communist regime refuses to acknowledge Taiwan as an independent nation and instead refers to it as Chinese Taipei.
According to media reports, there is growing concern within the U.S. Pentagon regarding the possibility of a conflict between the United States and China, specifically related to Taiwan’s sovereignty and trade issues in the South China Sea. Analysts at the Pentagon have been contemplating the consequences of a potential war with the Chinese Communist government. Simulation exercises have reportedly painted a grim picture, with the anticipated costs being significant. It is believed that all sides involved would experience significant losses in the event of a conflict.
In response to the incursion of 10 fighter jets into Taiwan’s airspace, Taiwan has been rapidly mobilizing its own jets. Additionally, they have deployed warships to address the threat posed by China in their territorial waters.
As the Chinese military’s pressure on Taiwan intensifies, Taiwan has recently acquired 400 anti-ship missiles from the United States. The Pentagon has announced a contract worth $1.17 billion with Taiwan, specifically for Harpoon missiles produced by Boeing. Although the contract was signed on April 7, the identity of the buyers was not publicly disclosed at that time. A U.S. Defense Department official, who spoke to Fox News, explained that these defense assets were necessary to ensure Taiwan’s security.
In September, during a press event, U.S. President Joe Biden made a commitment to protect Taiwan’s sovereignty in the event of a Chinese invasion. It has been reported that the United States has increased its military presence in the Taiwan Strait in anticipation of potential hostilities between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Taiwan.
Despite the escalating tensions, the United States has permitted South Korea and Taiwan to maintain their semiconductor manufacturing operations in China. This decision has raised concerns among political analysts who fear that it may undermine the export controls implemented by the U.S. to address Beijing’s aggressive trade practices in the chip industry.
