In late November, De Niro asserted that Trump had misled the American public on over 30,000 occasions throughout his four-year term in the White House. Additionally, the actor alleged that the former president was engaged in a retaliatory campaign.
The actor proceeded to express that Trump is incapable of concealing his true nature. According to him, Trump targets the vulnerable and lacks respect for others. These comments were made while presenting the award for Historical Icon and Creator Tribute.
In response to De Niro’s criticism, Trump addressed the matter in a post on TRUTH Social. He suggested that the actor should redirect his attention from him and concentrate on managing his own tumultuous life. The former president labeled De Niro as a complete failure.
In October, De Niro issued a statement broadcasted at the Stop Trump Summit in New York City. Despite being unwell and unable to attend the event, he aimed to ensure that his criticisms were still voiced.
The actor asserted that Trump portrayed himself as a pseudo tough individual lacking morals and ethics. Drawing on his own portrayals of antagonists, he expressed his belief that Trump is a malevolent figure. The actor contended that the former commander-in-chief lacked a sense of morality, displaying no consideration for right or wrong and showing no regard for anyone but himself.
Following Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election, De Niro appeared on MSNBC and expressed his apprehension to host Ari Melber. He voiced concerns that the former president might have influenced individuals more intelligent than himself. De Niro predicted a potential rise of figures akin to Trump in the future, suggesting they could be more effective in implementing policies.
De Niro is among numerous Hollywood actors who consistently criticize the former president. The former POTUS dismisses such criticism, attributing it to what he calls Trump Derangement Syndrome.
