While their children slept, a husband and wife killed a bear that broke into their home.
They were both hurt after battling off the bear on Friday evening when it attacked them.
According to accounts, they were able to stab the bear with a kitchen knife before the husband could get a handgun.
He then shot and killed the bear. After rushing through a window, the bear entered the home.
The pair claimed they saw the bear feeding from a bird feeder outside their Wisconsin house and shouted at it in an attempt to scare it away.
Both were bitten many times and suffered serious injuries. They were allowed to return home after being treated in a hospital.
During the incident, the couple’s children were sound sleeping.
Staff Sgt Seth Michael Plant, 30, was killed earlier this year at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, while another soldier was injured.
Plant, who was born in Saint Augustine, Florida, has been at the facility since July 2021, according to the Army. He was a 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment infantryman.
Plant always had a grin on his face, went above and beyond what was expected of him, and served as an example to anyone who had the opportunity of knowing him, according to Lt Col David Ja Nelson, commander of the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, a den with two brown bear cubs was discovered near the scene of the attack.
During the inquiry, a brown bear entered the location, according to the agency. Officials put bear spray on the beast, which caused it to flee.
The agency said, hair gathered during the investigation into the incident was consistent with a brown bear.
According to the Army, the bear assault occurred in a remote sector of the military facility in a training area west of the Anchorage dump.
