Sen. Cassidy: Build Back Better Was a ‘Terrible Bill’

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., on Sunday said President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Act would have been “terrible.”

His comments came after Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., signaled that he was pulling the plug on the BBB.

“It was a terrible bill,” Cassidy said, according to Mediaite. “It would have added to our current inflation, which is at a 40-year high, and would have added $3 trillion in 10 years to our nation’s debt and deficit. And the second most expensive item was to give a tax break to millionaires and billionaires who lived in New York, New Jersey, and states like that.”

Several line items of Biden’s agenda were mentioned in the bill, including free universal pre-K, expanded Medicare, climate change tax incentives, and an expanded child tax credit.

“I think it actually collapsed under its own weight. It was a bad, bad, bad bill,” Cassidy said.

During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Manchin said his concerns surrounding the package remained unresolved.

“I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation,” the moderate senator told host Bret Baier. “I’ve tried everything humanly possible. I can’t get there.”

When asked whether he was “done? This is a no?” — Manchin replied: “This is a no on this legislation.”
