A conflict is emerging within the House of Representatives. Some far-right lawmakers are determined to proceed with a plan to impeach President Joe Biden, whereas their more moderate counterparts are less enthusiastic about such a move, especially prior to the upcoming election. One conservative representative has cautioned her colleagues about the situation.

During a July 30 appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) talked about the potential of impeaching President Biden. She suggested the idea of initiating an inquiry without actually moving forward with impeachment. Nonetheless, she expressed concern that all GOP members representing districts won by Biden in the 2020 election could be in jeopardy of losing their seats. Mace emphasized that such actions might put the majority status of the party at risk.

As per Ballotpedia, 14 districts elected Republicans in 2022 but had also voted for Biden as President two years earlier. The current situation shows the GOP holding a narrow majority in the House with 222 seats. To maintain their majority status, they must retain at least 218 of those seats in the 2024 elections.

Mace emphasized the importance of her party adhering to the truth and facts. She highlighted the need to be better than Nancy Pelosi, who, in her opinion, politicized the impeachment process by impeaching former President Donald Trump twice. Mace argued that the impeachment process is a grave matter, and if her colleagues intend to proceed, they must have an exceptionally strong case to support their actions.

Republicans are investigating allegations about President Biden’s involvement with Burisma CEO Mykola Zlochevsky and his son Hunter Biden’s business activities during Joe Biden’s vice presidency from 2009 to 2017. Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer, testified before Congress, stating that while Hunter would occasionally call his father and include him in conversations on speakerphone during meetings, they never discussed business matters.

Archer did testify that Hunter attempted to leverage his father’s position to attract business opportunities. On the other hand, Zlochevsky, who was deposed during Trump’s first impeachment trial, asserted that neither he nor anyone at Burisma ever met or spoke with Joe Biden while he was vice president.

Given these developments, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is contemplating the possibility of launching an impeachment inquiry.
