Jen Psaki, the ex-White House press secretary, has consistently made astonishing statements since 2021. However, she recently raised the stakes with her remarks on MSNBC. According to Psaki, President Biden is at ease with the conservative base of the Republican Party. This assertion might prompt individuals to question the last time she engaged in a conversation with a Republican.
During her appearance on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” on June 1, Psaki delved into President Biden’s chances in the upcoming presidential election. Joy Reid, the host, shared her belief that Biden is being underestimated due to his age and mental condition, alluding to his stumble earlier that day at the US Air Force Academy. Reid inquired about what it is specifically about Biden that angers the right, and Psaki provided a surprising response, catching many off guard.
Psaki asserted that conservatives do not actually find anything about Biden bothersome. She contended that during the 2020 election, Republicans struggled to identify any substantial reasons to criticize him. According to her, “he’s a white man who’s older, so you know he is comfortable to many in their base.” Additionally, Psaki alleged that GOP strategists expressed reservations about Biden becoming the Democratic candidate in 2020 because he did not evoke fear or unease among the public.
Although Psaki may hold her belief, it doesn’t align with what Republicans were actually expressing about Biden in 2020, as well as their current stance. While Biden may not be as far-left as Senator Bernie Sanders, he has gradually shifted towards the left over the course of several decades, despite his initial positioning within the right wing of the Democratic Party.
In the early 1980s, Biden held a generally anti-abortion stance, but he has now become a staunch supporter of the practice. In 1994, he authored the “Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act,” which introduced 60 new capital offenses, yet he currently opposes the death penalty. Biden also advocates for gun control measures and drug decriminalization.
Considering these liberal positions, the fact that Biden is an older white man is unlikely to hold significant weight among conservatives.
