Prosecutors on Monday opposed Hunter Biden’s attempt to subpoena documents from former Department of Justice officials and former President Donald Trump in connection with the firearms case against him.

They highlighted that Hunter Biden lacked sufficient evidence to substantiate his claims of potential political interference in the ongoing criminal investigation against him. This is the basis for their urging the judge to dismiss Biden’s filed requests.

In court documents, Prosecutor Leo Wise expressed that the subpoena requests and accusations were likely inadmissible. He argued that these were extensive demands for documents involving individuals not directly linked to the prosecutorial decision in the case. The inquiry into Hunter Biden’s acquisition of firearms and his tax matters was initiated in 2018, under the Trump administration.

Nevertheless, charges in this case were brought forth this year, coinciding with the period when Joe Biden, Hunter Biden’s father, held office. Wise pointed to this reality as an inconvenient truth that undermined the defense’s argument.

U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika will be reviewing the subpoena request.

Hunter Biden’s legal representatives have claimed that at certain points during this case, it seemed that there was partisan pressure exerted by former Attorney General William Barr and deputies Richard Donoghue and Jeffrey Rosen. Additionally, they pointed to certain statements made by Trump, details from the House panel investigating the Capitol attack, and specific portions in Barr’s book.
