Pelosi Blames Inflation On Low Unemployment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., stated on Sunday that rising inflation is the result of more people entering the labor field, and that Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is incorrect in claiming that President Biden’s $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act will aggravate inflation.

Pelosi was asked by ABC’s This Week anchor George Stephanopoulos to explain what Democrats in Congress are doing to combat growing inflation, which has risen by 7.5 percent in the last year, the steepest rise in 40 years.

Pelosi praised the COMPETES Act, which addressed supply chain disruptions aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic and was passed by the House earlier this month by a 222-210 mostly partisan vote. The package includes a $52 billion “chips” fund to lure semiconductor fabrication back to the United States, as well as a $45 billion investment to ensure that key commodities are manufactured in the United States rather than in China.

Pelosi also endorsed Biden’s Build Back Better Act, a $1.75 trillion economic and climate bill that is all but dead in the Senate due to Manchin’s opposition. Manchin claimed that passing BBB will merely add fuel to an already smoldering economy, while Pelosi pushed back on Sunday, stating that it is a bill to reduce the deficit.

In her interview, Pelosi also addressed rising crime, claiming that Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., who wants to defund the police, is not speaking for the Democratic Party.

Our oath of duty is to safeguard and defend the community in any way possible, according to Pelosi. “Public safety is our responsibility.”
