Katy Perry to Quit American Idol

Pop star Katy Perry has already said that she will likely not return for a final season of “American Idol” after this one. She made the shocking announcement during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and posted a video of the shocking moment to her Instagram. Perry has served as a judge for the hit TV singing competition for seven years, but she says she’s ready to take her career to the next level with some exciting new ideas.

Talking about the new season of “American Idol,” Perry appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show on February 12. She said that she and the other two judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, went to each other’s hometowns as a way to spice things up this year. The singer reminisced about her days of busking as a teenager in Santa Barbara, Georgia, drinking lemonade on Richie’s front porch in Alabama, and visiting Bryan’s peanut farm in Georgia.

Even though Perry has said how much she likes the show, this move will probably be her last. In September, she will be performing at Brazil’s Rock and Rio music event, and she dropped hints that new songs might be on the way. “Well, they’ll find out tonight,” the vivacious diva added with a sheepish grin when asked how Richie and Bryan were coping with the news. She went on to say that both of them are aware of her “exciting” and hectic schedule, which she hinted might need her to extend her “wingspan.”

Perry started writing songs at the tender age of thirteen and relocated to Nashville to further her music career at the age of seventeen. once signing with Red Hill Records—a label that promoted her to fans of Christian and uplifting music—she wasted no time rebranding herself as a pop artist once the label went bankrupt. With the release of her second album, “Teenage Dream,” in 2008, her career skyrocketed. With the release of four more albums, Perry continued to achieve popularity on a global scale.
