Vice President Kamala Harris has encountered challenges during her tenure in the White House, as reflected in her poor approval ratings. This was further highlighted during her recent trip to Puerto Rico. On March 22, Harris paid a visit to a community center in San Juan’s Santurce neighborhood, where she toured the facility and engaged in discussions with staff and local leaders. Her arrival was met with a welcoming crowd of residents as her motorcade passed through the area.
Several individuals displayed signs expressing dissent against the administration’s position on the Gaza conflict. One sign labeled the Vice President as a war criminal, while another accused the US of genocide. Amidst these protests, six musicians performed a song for Harris at the center. Initially, she joined in clapping and appeared to enjoy the music. However, her demeanor shifted when an aide beside her translated the lyrics of the protest song.
Numerous people held up signs voicing disagreement with the administration’s stance on the Gaza conflict. In the midst of these demonstrations, six musicians entertained Harris with a song at the center. Initially, she participated in applause and seemed to appreciate the music. While visiting Puerto Rico, the vice president highlighted the government’s initiatives to assist in the island’s reconstruction following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria during the tenure of former President Donald Trump. The catastrophic category 5 storm ravaged the island, resulting in the loss of around 2,975 lives. Harris emphasized that the Biden administration has allocated over $140 billion to Puerto Rico since assuming office in January 2021.
As the nation approaches the November general election, the administration aims to strengthen its backing among Hispanic Americans. While Puerto Ricans are eligible to vote in the election, they lack representation in the Electoral College.
