Americans are becoming more dissatisfied with President Joe Biden’s leadership of the country, with many Democrats joining the chorus.
Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a Democrat, said it’s disappointing that Biden hasn’t backed the effort to temporarily freeze the federal gas tax.
Hassan believes the Biden administration should do everything possible to assist customers cope with sky-high gas costs.
“What I’ve been pushing for is, among other things, suspending the gas tax. That helps put some more money back in people’s pockets. I’m pushing the administration to support that. They haven’t yet and that’s frustrating,” Hassan added.
Hassan teamed up with fellow Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) to introduce the Gas Prices Relief Act, which would put a hold on the federal tax of 8.4 cents per gallon for the rest of the year and require the Treasury Department to ensure that the savings are passed on to consumers rather than oil and gas companies.

She said that she and the Biden administration couldn’t agree on how to cut fuel costs, and that she has enlisted the help of members of her party to advocate for a gas tax holiday and the release of greater oil reserves.
