The acronym DEI, which stands for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, is gaining notoriety and becoming a source of apprehension for many. Critics argue that it is being utilized to impose progressive ideologies into various facets of our daily existence. However, there is a growing resistance from conservatives. Notably, Florida has recently eliminated all funding for DEI initiatives within its state college system.

As of January 17, the Florida State Board of Education introduced fresh regulations regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This marks a significant development as the board has officially provided a concrete definition for the term, addressing a previous lack of clarity that allowed certain programs with woke ideologies to go unchecked.

With this defined term, both the Board and Florida colleges can now assess whether a new program or policy is associated with DEI. In cases where it is determined to be linked, the new rules establish a clear policy prohibiting the use of taxpayers’ funds to support it.

Moving forward, if a program or initiative is associated with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), state or federal funds cannot be allocated to support it in colleges. Interestingly, the Board has achieved this by disallowing public funding for any initiative that classifies individuals based on race or gender for the sake of disparate or preferential treatment.

Essentially, it is a measure against racism and sexism. Despite liberal claims to oppose these biases, DEI has been criticized for promoting differential treatment based on race or gender. Now, such practices will not be permitted in publicly-funded Florida colleges.

In revealing the updated regulations, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz Jr emphasized the importance of colleges redirecting their emphasis toward “academic integrity and the pursuit of knowledge,” rather than endorsing far-left ideologies among students. As part of this effort, the state has decided to eliminate the “Principles of Sociology” course, citing its infiltration by woke ideologies. The course will be substituted with an alternative that is described as “accurate and factual,” focusing on American History.
