Due to her worries about illegal immigrants who have been moving into the district, Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s second request to mobilize the National Guard was refused by the Pentagon.
She submitted a second letter on August 11 after her initial request earlier this month was turned down, requesting the deployment of 150 National Guard soldiers to assist avert a protracted humanitarian catastrophe brought on by the daily influx of migrants in our nation’s capital.
Kelly Bulliner Holly, executive secretary of the Department of Defense, however, rejected that proposal.
“The DCNG has no specific experience in or training for this kind of mission or unique skills for providing facility management, feeding, sanitation or ground support. Approval of this request would also result in a substantial readiness impact to the DCNG. Devoting the personnel or the facility for such an extended mission would force the cancellation or disruption of military training,” Holly said in the letter.
Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, has been busing illegal immigrants to sanctuary communities, much to the chagrin of leftist mayors, but the Republican has pledged to keep doing so.
He said last week that since April, over 7,000 illegal immigrants had been transferred to the capital of the country, and over 900 had been sent to New York City since August 5.
“Frankly, I don’t know of a larger crisis facing our country right now. Before we began busing migrants to New York, it was just Texas and Arizona that bore the brunt of all the chaos and problems that come with it. Now, the rest of America can understand exactly what is going on,” Abbott responded to criticism from NYC Mayor Eric Adams on ABC News’ Nightline.
